Tweet Our daily activities have been polluting the ocean for centuries, this problem was magnified after World War II. Industries started manufacturing and synthesizing materials that were very harmful to the environment such as plastic products and inorganic pesticides. Oceans are mainly affected when humans are irresponsibly spreading harmful toxic substances such as oil, plastic, industrial and agricultural waste as well as chemical particles into the ocean. Another human action that is harming the marine life is mining for materials such as copper and gold.
This causes water contamination and affects the life cycles of numerous marine organisms. Pollution has so many effects on the ocean starting from a decreasing in biodiversity to behavioral changes, as well as increasing rates of cancer in animals as well as in humans. For example, oil spills could get on the gills and feathers of marine animals and make it hard for the animals to move or fly.
Another problem with oil spills is that oil has a lower density than the water thus it floats on the surface of water preventing the sunlight from reaching all the way to the marine plants. Therefore these plants cannot perform photosynthesis leading to lower oxygen levels in the ocean as well as the death of these plants since they cannot make their food anymore.

The variety of fruits and vegetables we have available is one of the best things about summer in the San Joaquin Valley. So what do you do with all that produce? Well, you serve it up fresh of course, or give your extras away to friends and neighbors, and you just might do a little freezing, canning or preserving yourself, in order to savor all that goodness in the middle of winter. In the long history of food preservation, canning is a fairly recent entry.
Canning works by using heat to kill the organisms that can spoil food and then sealing to keep any new ones from entering the container. We can credit Napoleon Bonaparte with starting the canning trend around A few Frenchmen took up the challenge and did make some headway, but it took almost a century before canning became practical. Vintage Mason Jars February 24, If you’ve been following me for awhile now, you know I have some hoarder tendencies. I just love old things, especially items that have a history or a great story behind it. I’ve collected quite a few mason jars over time but I’ve never until now owned any jars quite like these. I was on the hunt for pint size jars for my centrepieces and other fun wedding stuff.
I came across an ad on Craigslist with the subject line: So I decided try my luck and contact the guy. Now, I’ve seen a few of these Crown jars at antique shops but never purchased one since they usually go for a higher price point. Well, I really lucked out because the previous owner had an entire lot that was used for his wedding and he was dying to get rid of them. And these are the real thing; I just love the crown design on the front.

Comments CedarOaks , 7 years ago I don’t want to sound ignorant But, I do have a question: Do they make a 9 jar? If so, how do you know if it’s a 9 or 6, if the line is not there? I ask because I have collected a few old jars, over the years, and use them to keep my macaroni, rice, etc. It all started with my grandmother. She did the same and when she passed , I kept 2 she had. Admittedly, I don’t remember which two they were and I’ve picked up a couple since, because one of the ones I had was accidentally broken at some point.
I have 6 jars and not all are Ball Brand It was more of a sense of keeping my grandmother around! What I have is: But looks like it’s for a handle, not a bale does move from side to side.
